The New Moon takes place at 03.38am GMT on October 28th at 4 degrees 25 Scorpio.

The New Moon is exactly opposite Uranus Rx in Taurus. Just before the New Moon on October 27th, Mars in Libra exactly Squares Saturn in Capricorn. With Mercury also about to go retrograde in Scorpio, ruled by Mars and Pluto, a sign of emotional intensity and ordeals, that demands and enforces metamorphosis wherever it is necessary – what comes to mind is shocks and disruptions that have a fated feel, necessary repercussions that amend and correct outcomes.

New Moon Meaning

The Sun and Moon are conjunct at the start of a new cycle. A New Moon indicates we could be initiating, putting in place changes – commencing something brand new or refreshing, spicing up a habitual routine.

It’s a time seeds are sown – new ideas, goals or approaches in life.

Aspects

The New Moon is exactly opposite Uranus. This is certainly going to bring surprises – good or bad. Something may suddenly change, and it is likely to come as a shock. It could also encourage out of character, erratic or risky behaviour – in ourselves, those close to us or in the world.

You may love the commotion, the drama, finding it exciting and exhilarating or feel anxious, nervous and fearful.

With Uranus a strong influence on this New Moon, the best thing is to keep in mind changes and alterations may pop up out of nowhere, be ready to adapt and flow with them. Uranus can be very unsettling energy for some, if you feel in a tizzy, jittery and agitated, try to relax, breathe deeply – slow everything down until you feel calmer.

At the New Moon Mars is square Saturn. Mars is in his detriment in Libra, Saturn is strong in his own sign of Capricorn. Saturn will be putting the brakes on any actions Mars has in mind, and whilst Mars is not going to be happy with this situation there is maybe not much he can do about it.

Mars is descriptive of personal passions and motivations, something we do or would like to could be put in check. This could lead to frustration, anger or conversely depression and fatigue.

The combination of Uranus and Mars square Saturn does bring up the suggestion of the possibility of accidents occurring – if you feel overwhelmed, flustered or distracted, again pause and collect your thoughts before doing anything.

Mars will also square Pluto in Capricorn on November 5th. For a second time personal desires and motivations (Mars) are going to be challenged. Pluto can bring light or darkness. This energy could bring up power struggles, manipulation, criminal/violent tendencies or lead the way to compromising and cooperating with others to constructively resolve and heal problems. Use your energy wisely.

Fixed Star ~ SYRMA

Syrma in Constellation Virgo at 4 degrees 04′ Scorpio is conjunct the New Moon. Syrma is located on the hem of Virgo the Virgin’s dress.

Said to be prominent in the charts of Mohammed and Moses, the Arabs considered this star as the most fortunate of their lunar stations”  Fixed Stars and Judicial Astrology, George Noonan, 1990, page 32

Syrma or Surma by its Greek titles, Al Ghafar is the name in Arabic. Al Ghafar means to cover, to protect, to suppress. The Significance of this star and title lies firstly in the heavy responsibility which is implicit in the occult questing and acquisistion of spiritual power seen in Khambalia (at 7 degrees 13′ Scorpio) and secondly in the Islamic concept of Istighafar.”  The Living Stars, Dr Eric Morse, 1988, page 74

Istighfar is “the act of seeking forgiveness from Allah”  Wikipedia

all in all

The New Moon has 4 planets in Scorpio including Mercury, who has slowed down ready to station retrograde – for a review and possible re-do of the past. In Scorpio Mercury is going to go deep, likely to result in a permanent change, a correction of something. Uranus opposite the New Moon is a catalyst, igniting a sudden spark to initiate – change.

Mars who symbolises individual desires energised, put into action, is square Saturn, who is also known as the Lord of Karma – action (Mars) being blocked and possibly disciplined (Saturn).

Karma is the result of action, it reflects a spiritual cause and effect – the consequence of action influences the future. Fated, karmic liabilities are possibly ripening on a global level – things that are out of our control. It’s possible we will see shocks in the financial markets, more big business collapses and further public rebellion.

Globally the painful, relentless, miserable reality of life for the majority, dictated by current structures and set ups, certainly needs to change.

Fixed star Syrma relates to connecting to spiritual truths, behaving in an honourable, trustworthy, conscientious manner. A need to recognise, express regret and atone for any misguided action or mistakes.

This New Moon is challenging, change can be difficult and disruptive, we lose visibility, any certainty of the future. But hope and optimism on the way forward may emerge, some compassion, kindness and spiritual insight may appear – potentially provided by Saturn sextile Neptune. The third and final exact sextile of 2019 takes place on November 9th. Mercury will sextile Saturn 3 times and trine Neptune 3 times (once direct, once retrograde, then again in direct motion).

Our thoughts and communications (Mercury) are potentially connecting with practical, realistic ways (Saturn) to make ideas, dreams possible, bring the truth, reality to light and emphasise compassion for ourselves and others (Neptune).

TAROT ~ The 5 of Cups

The New Moon takes place in the 1st decan of Scorpio ruled by Mars (in both systems), the corresponding tarot card is the 5 of cups.

Mars is the warrior – fiery, passionate action directed towards whatever is worth fighting for. But Mars also knows that loss, even death can be a consequence.

Book T calls this card “Loss in Pleasure”

The Rider Waite Smith card depicts a man, wearing a black cloak beside a river, mourning the loss of the three spilt cups before him. The sky is cloudy and dark, blood has spilt out onto the ground from 2 of the cups.

Behind him, possibly unnoticed are 2 upright cups. In the distance there is a bridge over the river that leads to home.

This card is about loss, regret and sadness. An emotional blow – the end of something. At the present moment there is pain and depression, however, all is not lost – behind him unseen, two cups remain upright. The man fails to see what he still has – his focus is on what he has lost, rather than that the future still promises hope.

The home in the distance, shows that a brighter emotional state, a sense of peace and security is awaiting the man in the future.

In a reading – The loss or possible loss of a loved one, relationship, business/job, or something dearly cherished. But a second chance at something could still be possible, a relationship or situation could be saved – if not wisdom can be gained from mistakes. Potentially while there is deep, seemingly insurmountable sorrow now – the future brings transformation, meeting a lover who is truly compatible or a job that brings satisfaction. Mourning a loved one also brings up the possibility of being bequeathed an inheritance.
